This is our final week of the marking period. Congratulations! You should have most of the fundamental components of your website completed. I will be grading your index pages on Friday so make sure you are on track. Refer back to your rubric for help.
Week 5 Update: January 12-19
This week is very important as you will create a customized banner and navigation buttons. These elements will make your website pop! Let me know if you get behind or are making mistakes in your code. Trust me, it can get messy and you will become frustrated if you leave them unattended. FYI, I love this class. You are hard workers and care about your end product. Plus, you help others around you and are just cool in general. Thank you.
Week 4 Update: January 5-9
I hope you had a lovely holiday break! I’m so excited that we will begin building our real survival first webpage this week! You will feel quite accomplished as the framework will be used on all other pages. Keep brainstorming picture ideas (hand drawings or photographs) as you will use them throughout the course of the trimester.
Week 3 Update: December 15-19
Christmas break is almost here! Before we begin cheering, we have a quiz to take this week. I will be transparent regarding the content, but you need to study to ace it. When coding is new, it may cause some problems. However, I promise, you will get used to the specific rules and learn how-to create a professional website from it. Work hard so that you may enjoy your time off!
Week 2 Update: December 8-12
Now that we have completed the setup of our course, we can move on to creating a graphic organizer for our website and complete our first photoshop lesson. Do you have pictures that relate to this trimester’s theme of Survival: Lost in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula? Did you bring your notebook? Preparation is key for this course. I am excited to see your ideas come to life. Buckle up. We will be starting to pick up speed from this point forward.
Week 1 Update: December 1-5
Welcome to web design where you will be forced to work hard, be original, and problem solve daily! I am so excited to have you on my roster. 🙂
During the first week, we will learn about the class requirements, each other, and build a digital blog which will house your assignments. I hope you are already having a fun beginning of the second trimester!
Week 13 Update: November 24-28
Good luck on your final exams! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We have TWENTY young ladies who became finalists in the annual web design competition! Go Lake Shore!
Dasha, Brooke, Megan, and Hailey, I am looking forward to our field trip on Wednesday, December 3. See you at 8:40 a.m. at the MISD to board the bus for Lansing!
Week 12 Update: November 17-21
Now that our websites are officially completed, the only requirement we have left is to finalize the class with an essay and presentation. This final exam is great preparation if you become a finalist in the competition. Plus, with all of the heart and work that you put forth, it is important that you share your website with the class.
I will be going over the essay and presentation requirements this week with presentations beginning on Friday. Lake Shore Alumni guest speakers Mallory Burr and Eva Smith, who have gone through the presentation process, will give you tips to make your presentation great! Your final day in 1st hour is next Monday. As I have said before, I am truly going to miss all of you.
Anyone going to see The Hunger Games: Mockingjay on Friday? I’m jealous. 🙂
Week 11 Update: November 10-14
This is it. Your website due date is Wednesday! The FTP will be taken down at that time. Make your website the best it can be before your final deadline.
We have been invited to the Lansing State Capitol Building to showoff our websites, but I can only take a limited number of students. This would be an excellent resume-boosting opportunity; I will be using your feedback to make selections, but if you really want to go, let me know. The field trip will be on Wednesday, December 3 during the new trimester.
Week 10 Update: November 3-7
Remember, we do not have school on Tuesday, November 4 due to Election Day/Professional Development for teachers. Continue to reupload your pages to ensure zero broken links/graphics/errors. We will be working through the requirements of your last page this week. Yes, I said that correctly. Your final page. Woo-hoo! Give it your all to ensure the best possible website. Good luck!
