Your choice!  Please make these posts at least 5 sentences in length.  I want to hear about you.  🙂

PROFILE

#1A: Are you a popular sanguine, powerful choleric, perfect melancholy, or peaceful phlegmatic? Do you agree or disagree with the description? How would your parents, friends, and other teachers describe you? (2-3 sentences)

Browse your personality profile sheet. Using 1 sentence, please tell me one personal strength and why you feel that word best describes you.

Then, using 1 sentence, please tell me one personal weakness and why you need to work on that term. How will you go about improving this part of you?

You should have five sentences or more altogether and explain your personality in detail.

#1B: Use this website to help you find a quote that represents your inner core.  Use a different website if that one doesn’t help you. Which quote did you select?  How do these words have significant meaning for you?

#1C: In my opinion, family is the backbone for my own happiness.  Tell me about your family.  How many members do you have?  Are you close?  Occupations?  Pets?  Summer vacations?  Fun memories?  Go!

CHAPTER 10

#2: Today we will have a serious discussion about goal setting. My number one goal, accomplished recently, was to be a National Board Certified Teacher. A fun goal is to hold a penguin someday! What is your most important aspiration and why? 🙂

#3:  Skim this article.  Obviously, employees should take pride in their work regardless of whether or not he or she loves the job.  At school, which subject is most troublesome (or less engaging) for you? How do you cope with the work? Remember, there will be many parts of life that are not fun. Choosing to have a positive attitude will make these moments less icky. I promise.

#4: Watch this video. Name one positive characteristic about your mom, dad, or best friend.  How does that characteristic help him or her be successful in the workplace or in your life?  Example:  My mother is the most selfless person that I know.  Growing up, she prepared a fresh dinner for our family, mowed the lawn, cleaned the house, drove me to practices, and motivated me to perform well in school.  She never cared about herself at all;  Instead, she devoted all of her time to her family.

Have you heard that when a female elephant gives birth, the other female elephants gather in a circle around her? They protect her from all sides and taking turns trumpeting encouragement. Isn’t that amazing?

I have a 30 day challenge! Make only positive posts on social media for this month. I have read several reports that employers are watching potential employees posts. MOST of the things young people put are negative. They complain about their job, friends, and life in general. BUT… imagine how they will feel when they come across someone that decides to showcase his/her talents, doesn’t complain, and is a positive person? Even if you are not looking for a job, I think you’ll make the world a better place by being positive. So, April 1st (Yes I know it is April Fools day) start being positive! Change your mindset! Lastly, let me know how it works out for you. I want to hear back!

#5: Please read Charles Swindoll’s quote on Attitude here.  Which part stands out the most to you?  Explain why.

#6: We’ll watch this video as you respond to the following question: Describe the most recent time in your life where you did a good deed for someone else. Simplicity works. Who was it for? What prompted you to do this? If you are having trouble coming up with one instance, well, think about how horrible that sounds.

Do you have additional time?  Read this story. What was unbelievable about the softball game? Do you feel disappointed that the newspaper’s headline found their behavior to be unbelievable? Why?

#7: Name one “thing” in life that you consider awesome. Please, make it something you take for granted.

Ex: I find fish tanks in Chinese restaurants/doctor’s offices to be the coolest. They are always so clean and the fish inside look so happy. ….Ah. 🙂 This website is just awesome. Period.  And if you need one more, here it is.

#8: Watch this video. Which rule stands out to you the most and why.

CHAPTER 2

#9: Read this brief article. According to the article, why do you not want to have an elephant’s memory? Out of every moment you’ve had on Earth, name the most memorable one. Two sentence reflection: One about the elephant’s memory and one about a special memory.

#10: Since I was 15 years old, I have worked a job. My first one was as a busser at a local restaurant called The Country Inn. If you could select your preferred job, while in high school, where would you work? Tell me why you would rock at this place!

#11: Part I: Google your name. The search will work better if you use quotation marks around your name. Do you have an online presence? Tell me what you found! Part II: Think about the specific “footprints” or information you leave behind on the sites on your map (such as what you viewed, typed, or accessed). If this was the only information someone had about you, what would they think about you? What assumptions would they make about your habits & behaviors?

Example:  When I Google my name, my Weebly, edublog, and publications come up in the search.  This is not scary to me because I feel that I am leaving a positive digital footprint.  Because I have small children, I type a lot of baby-related questions into the search box.  People would be able to tell that I love my children and am always asking Google questions related to their overall care and needs.

#12: As you know, you are required to have two work samples scanned in and uploaded to your electronic portfolio. What project, assignment, presentation have you completed that received an impressive grade? What did you learn from that piece of work?

#13: Describe a super cool lesson that a teacher/coach taught. What made it memorable? One paragraph (5-7 sentences), please.

CHAPTER 3

#14: Download and read this: Words for Teens. What do you think of John Tapene’s words?  Are they fair?  As a whole, do you believe teenagers are leaving a positive stamp on this world? Why? Are you?

#15: Read this article.  This message is similar to our chapter 3 current event.  Do you agree or disagree with Mitch Albom’s response?  Why?

#16: Which career would you possibly consider in the future? In 3-5 sentences, please sell this career to me. Make me want to quit being a technology teacher and work as a ___ instead. Convince me. I’m waiting! Ex: You should pursue a career as a teacher because you have the power to change lives in unimaginable ways. You can dance, sing, and write comedy to entertain your audience. Looking like a complete dork is actually cool. And the best part? You get to see hundreds of success stories shared through email and as students return to visit.

#17: Using the OOH, remind me of your least favorite responsibility related to your career.  How will you “deal” with this unavoidable task?

Example:  For me, grading papers is a daunting task.  I try to give work, like the career presentation, where I have the opportunity to view different student work samples.  That way, I learn about my students, engage them, and do not become bored with correcting the same sheet of paper.  🙂

CHAPTER 6

#18: Tell me why the job you selected (journal #10) connects to your career. If yours doesn’t seem to link, it can, with a bit of imagination. Tell me how. 🙂 Ex: Even though a high school teacher doesn’t seem to relate to the job of a waitress, it can. I had to help customers with their dinner selection, answer questions, give great service, deal with complaints, and become more interpersonal.

#19: Review the Michigan Minor Laws. Share with me one fact that you learned about being a working minor.  Why did it catch your attention?  Do you have additional time? Read this article.  Employers must obey these laws!

#20:  Browse through this: HS Activities_TC.    What activities are you involved in/could be involved in/tie to career path?

#21: Check out this website and click on Business>Employment>Unemployment Rate.  Where is Michigan ranked?

CHAPTER 7

#22: Communication, attitude, job qualifications (can you DO the job already or training is needed), and appearance are the top four categories that employers look for when they interview you. Rank them #1-4 (1 best-4 worst) according to which categories you feel are most important. Then, tell me why you ranked ____ as #1.

#23: According to Robert DiGiacomo, edgy looks, especially those involving the baring of cleavage, skin or tattoos, rarely cut it at the office, unless you happen to work in a trend-conscious field like advertising or fashion. In your opinion, describe an appropriate interview outfit for your selected occupation.

EXTRA:  Visit this link.  Do you believe it is fair to only hire and sell clothes for the “cool” kids?  Describe your thoughts within this journal.  Trivia Fact:  A&F burns their damaged/defective clothing instead of donating it to places like Salvation Army/the homeless to ensure that “uncool/overweight” people do not wear their brand.

#24: Look at this ad. Even though this job advertisement is poking fun at poor employability skills, we all have flaws. Looking at that list and pondering other possible “issues,” which one do you feel employees violate the most? Would you fire him/her for it? How many chances would you give? Do you see students violating these things in the classroom? How should the teacher handle the situation? Use 3-5 sentences to respond. You do not have to answer every question.

#25: In your opinion, which interview question was most difficult for you to generate a response? Why?

FUTURE

#26: Play the Game of Life. See directions here.  When finished, screenprint your results.  What surprised you the most about the results of this simulation?  What scares you the most about your future as an adult?  How will you overcome those fears?

#27: Watch The Dash. This article is pretty interesting, too. Imagine your life 5 years from now.  In 5-7 sentences, give your FutureMe a piece of advice.  Dear Future Me:  I should…  When you are finished typing your response into this journal, send it to yourself, 5 years from now, using this link.
